FIX Protocol
FIX Protocol is a public domain communications standard
used to transmit electronic securities transactions.
I began studying it in April 2004, and it has proven
to be both a pleasure to work with and a great learning
experience.
Exception Handling
Good exception handling is an important, though often overlooked aspect
of software development. A small investment in better exception handling
will make most software more robust and responsive. The following rules
all have exceptions, but in most cases they will serve you well.

The Color Selector
This little app uses basic color theory to help you select
color palettes.
I wrote version 2.0 while I was at OOPSLA 2003, and it turned into
a nice presentation on how MVC is a natural evolutionary step
in interactive applications (see MVC below).

Lumbermill
Lumbermill is a graphical utility for Log4j. It is written
in Swing and provides an easy to use interface for recording,
viewing, and archiving logs. Future versions will incorporate
Log4j configuration and log distribution.
Introduction to Patterns
Patterns are designs that naturally appear in Object
Oriented programming. They offer a common language that
helps OO designers and programmers communicate. This
presentation is intended to make patterns more approachable
for people who are new to the idea.

blush it can seem intimidating and non-intuitive. This

US Inflation Adjusted Deficit
It is difficult to find easy to read charts showing the
inflation adjusted deficit. Most of the deficit information
on the web is heavily dosed with a partisan agenda. These
charts attempt to provide an unbiased snapshot of the deficit.
Escaped Aussies
Every once in a while it's nice to get away from the computer
and relax. Escaped Aussies is a sailing crew I recently joined.
It's easy to see how people get addicted to racing.
